The investigation so far indicates that Maciej Z. consumed a small amount of a colourless liquid in the evening of 21 September this year. The liquid was in a bottle bearing the label “Żywioł Żywiec Zdrój”. As a result, he was taken to hospital, where he received medical assistance.
In the apartment where the injured man was staying, investigators secured 11 bottles of “Żywioł Żywiec Zdrój” highly carbonated mineral water, with a capacity of 0.5 litres and batch marking S:08/08/08:49/3/1, as well as one bottle from batch S:20/04/11:04/3/1.
According to Maciej Z.’s father, Eugeniusz, he purchased the entire multipack that same day at one of the shops in Bolesławiec.
The preliminary opinion of the Forensic Laboratory of the Lower Silesian Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław indicates that the bottle bearing batch marking S:20/04/11:04/3/1 contained a chemical substance instead of water; however, the laboratory is unable to identify it fully. Evidence-gathering activities are currently underway to establish at what stage the bottle was filled with the aforementioned chemical substance and to identify the substance precisely.
