The Bydgoszcz District Veterinary Officer ordered the manufacturer's production facility to conduct a risk assessment, take corrective action, immediately implement a procedure for notifying recipients and withdrawing the above-mentioned products from the market, and, if they had not been placed on the market, block them and label them as unsafe food. The Bydgoszcz District Veterinary Officer is conducting further explanatory proceedings in this matter and verifying the corrective actions taken.
Actions taken by the manufacturer:
Following the detection of Listeria monocytogenes in the “Smoked chicken quarter” product, a risk assessment was conducted and the questioned batch was deemed non-compliant; a withdrawal procedure was implemented. On 23 September 2026, the recipient—the Biedronka distributor—was informed of the need to withdraw the questioned product. At the same time, immediate corrective measures were implemented to eliminate the causes of the non-compliance and prevent their recurrence in the future.
Actions taken by the distributor:
According to information provided by the manufacturer's facility to the Veterinary Inspection authorities on 23 September 2026, the distributor implemented a procedure to withdraw the product from store shelves and blocked the remaining non-compliant goods held in central warehouses. As a result of the arrangements made, all of the withdrawn product will be sent for disposal as Category 2 material.
The authorities of the State Sanitary Inspection are cooperating with the Veterinary Inspection in this matter and monitoring the process of withdrawing the product from retail sale.
