Update
According to the police's preliminary findings, the Volkswagen driver failed to give way to four cyclists who were riding correctly. Unfortunately, three of them were injured.
The driver responsible for the road incident explained that he had been blinded by the sun just before making the maneuver and therefore had not seen the cyclists.
A serious accident occurred on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, on the overpass at Działkowa Street in Polkowice. (The report was received by the Command Post of the Commander of the County Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Polkowice at 5:49 p.m.). Emergency services were dispatched to the scene.
It turned out that a passenger car had hit a group of three cyclists traveling across the overpass.
The injured cyclists were examined by emergency medical teams. The entire group of three was then taken to hospital.
Firefighters from the Polkowice JRG and the Volunteer Fire Service in Sobin, as well as emergency medical teams and the police, took part in the operation. The police are determining the causes and circumstances of the incident.
An appeal for caution
This incident is another reminder of how important it is for all road users to exercise caution. Drivers, especially in the vicinity of overpasses, intersections and places where cyclists may be present, should remain particularly attentive and adjust their speed to the road conditions. Cyclists should also ensure that they are clearly visible and follow the rules of the road. Mutual caution can prevent dangerous situations and accidents.
