26 September we took a photo of prices at one of the filling stations in Bolesławiec. On Saturday, 3 October, we photographed the price pylon again to compare both values and check whether a price reduction had actually occurred at the local station.
How much did fuel cost then, and how much does it cost now? The difference can be seen in the table and in the photo below, using the MOL station in Bolesławiec as an example.

Why did fuel become cheaper?
The issue of fuel prices returned in recent weeks along with work on a law concerning a tax on windfall profits earned by companies involved in the production and import of fuels. The president signed the law on 1 October. It provided, among other things, for a tax on part of the windfall profits of fuel companies, as well as the possibility of reducing excise duty on fuels.
According to earlier government announcements, funds obtained from the tax were to be used to finance support measures related to high fuel prices. The provisions of the law entered into force during the night of 2–3 October.
Different estimates of the possible scale of the reduction
Various estimates appeared in the public debate. Representatives of the Chancellery of the President, presenting their own initiative concerning fuel prices, even indicated the possibility of prices falling by 1.70–2.60 zł per litre. However, this was a forecast concerning a specific presidential draft, not a guaranteed effect of the law signed on 1 October. According to government estimates and the government draft, the price of fuel was expected to fall by approximately 1.30 zł per litre.
