The incident occurred in the afternoon in Polkowice County. According to the officers’ preliminary findings, a 27-year-old resident of the region left an American bully in a tightly closed car while carrying belongings out of his partner’s apartment.
According to the owner, the animal remained in the vehicle for approximately 30–60 minutes. The man later explained that he had lost track of time.
When he returned to the car, he noticed that the dog was not breathing. He immediately removed the animal from the vehicle and began resuscitation, while emergency services were called to the scene. Despite the efforts undertaken, the four-legged animal could not be saved.
Police officers carried out activities at the scene, and a veterinarian pronounced the animal dead. It was initially established that the death may have been caused by leaving the dog in a heated car without adequate ventilation. Proceedings are under way to clarify all the circumstances of the incident.
Officers remind the public that during heatwaves, the temperature inside a parked car can rise very quickly – even when conditions outside are not extreme. Even a short time spent in a locked vehicle can lead to overheating, loss of consciousness and a threat to life.
Police appeal to the public never to leave children, elderly people or animals in a car – even “just for a few minutes.” They also stress that leaving a window ajar does not provide adequate protection against high temperatures.
If we notice an animal or person left in a car during hot weather, we should react immediately and notify the emergency services by calling 112.
Every minute can matter.
