The District Court in Jelenia Góra, at the prosecutor’s request, ordered the temporary detention of a 40-year-old resident of the city. The man will spend the next three months in custody in connection with proceedings concerning domestic violence and other alleged offences.
According to investigators’ findings, from March 2025 until 20 May 2026, the suspect allegedly committed physical and psychological violence against his 36-year-old wife, with whom he lived. The evidence gathered by the prosecutor’s office indicates that arguments took place during which the man allegedly insulted the woman, threatened to kill her and waved a kitchen knife.
Investigators also point to an incident in March 2026, when the suspect allegedly struck the woman with a broom handle. The victim reportedly suffered injuries resulting in a health disorder lasting more than seven days.
In May 2026, the District Court in Jelenia Góra ordered the man to leave the jointly occupied apartment and prohibited him from approaching the premises within less than 100 metres. However, according to the prosecutor’s office, the suspect did not comply with the order and allegedly continued to appear at the victim’s place of residence.
One such incident occurred on 20 May 2026. According to investigators, by kicking the apartment’s entrance door, the man damaged the door frame and lock.
Another intervention took place on 23 June 2026. The prosecutor’s office reports that, despite the order in force, the suspect again appeared at the woman’s apartment and threatened to take her life.
On the same day, according to investigators, he also abused the dog belonging to the victim. The cane corso attempted to shield its owner during the attack. As a result, the dog suffered swelling, bloodshot eyes, breathing problems and a paw injury.
After the incident, the man was detained by officers of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra. During questioning before the prosecutor, the suspect denied committing the alleged offences and gave an explanation.
The offences covered by the proceedings carry a penalty of between three months and five years’ imprisonment. The prosecutor’s office stated that the man had not previously been convicted. Temporary detention does not determine guilt—the final decision in the case will be made by the court.
