This was not an ordinary theft. That is why the perpetrator quickly earned the nickname “Cinderella” online. Although in this case the ending was decidedly less fairy-tale-like.
It all began on the night of April 12–13 on Zygmunta Augusta Street in Bolesławiec. It was then that, from one of the stairwells, a bicycle worth more than PLN 2,000 and women’s shoes disappeared. The owner of the property was shocked—in the place where her belongings had been, there was a pair of old, worn-out shoes that had not been there before.
“Cinderella” tracked down by district officers
The case was reported by, among others, the istotne.pl portal, and internet users did not spare the thief sarcastic comments, calling her Bolesławiec’s “Cinderella”.
Although the case sounded comical, the police treated it with full seriousness. – The Bolesławiec district officers demonstrated excellent investigative work and great commitment, which first enabled them to recover the stolen bicycle worth more than PLN 2,000 and then identify the perpetrator – says junior aspirant Bartłomiej Sobczyszyn of the Bolesławiec police.
The breakthrough came this morning. Police tracked down and detained a woman from Bolesławiec County. The woman admitted guilt.
Thanks to the officers’ efficient operation, both the bicycle and the stolen shoes were returned to their rightful owner. “Cinderella” from the City of Ceramics will now face court for theft, for which she faces a prison sentence.
