Criminal investigators were working on the case of damage to two barriers belonging to a private company operating the car park at Osiedle Przylesie in Lubin. The owner estimated the losses at nearly PLN 19,000. – As a result of operational work and based on the secured surveillance footage, police officers identified a person suspected of the crime. Having established the perpetrator’s identity, they detained the man – reports Senior Police Officer Łukasz Porębski of the Wrocław Provincial Police Headquarters.
The vandal turned out to be a 29-year-old resident of Lubin. The spokesperson said: – During the procedural activities, the man admitted to the charges against him and expressed remorse. He also explained to police officers that he had drunk too much alcohol that day and that “his brakes failed.”
In addition, criminal investigators established that the 29-year-old was responsible for stealing alcohol from one of the shops in Lubin. This happened several days before the barriers were damaged. Senior Police Officer Ł. Porębski said: – According to the report, the man entered the market, packed a carton of high-proof alcohol and crossed the checkout line without, of course, paying for the goods he had taken.
A representative of the shop estimated the value of the stolen property at more than PLN 800. As the suspect himself admitted, he was also drunk that day.
The resident of Lubin was placed in a police cell. Police officers have already charged him. The man will face charges for property damage and theft. Since the 29-year-old committed both offences under so-called recidivism conditions, he could now face up to 7.5 years in prison.
Spokesperson:
Police officers very often detain people who commit crimes while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These substances weaken moral restraints in many people, but they do not in any way exempt them from criminal liability; on the contrary. In some cases, they lead to harsher penalties, including in the case of intoxicated drivers who cause road accidents.
