Grzegorz Wieczorek, the mayor of Lubań, explains that he learned about the convicted pedophile last Friday. And about the details of the case—only on Saturday, from media reports.
According to the mayor, this was a “system error.” The verdict in the case of Tadeusz K., who worked at MOSiR in Lubań, became final on October 2, 2025. The mayor emphasizes that information about the ruling reached the Lubań municipal office only… two and a half months later, on December 18 of last year.
The mayor explains that more than 1,000 employees report to the municipal office, and consequently not all of them are known to municipal officials by name. They also did not know that the notification concerned an employee of the facility in question, which is why the information received from the court in Bolesławiec was— in accordance with the regulations—forwarded to another office, due to the employee’s place of residence.
The mayor points out that he was not K.’s direct employer. The director of MOSiR in Lubań has already been dismissed.
What went wrong?
According to the mayor, the court should have informed the employer, namely MOSiR in Lubań. That should have happened after the first-instance verdict, issued in December 2024. As the mayor emphasizes, if the facility’s director had received such information at that time, he would certainly have immediately ordered the man to be removed from contact with minors.
Grzegorz Wieczorek stresses that children in Lubań are safe. He also says that the offenses for which K. was convicted occurred neither in the city nor at municipal facilities.
The current acting director of MOSiR, in turn, strongly emphasizes that the facility has still not received information about what led to their employee’s arrest. The authorities of Lubań and the facility plan to meet with the court president and police representatives so that this type of situation never occurs again.
