The most difficult situation occurs at the times when service begins and ends. Cars then occupy almost every free section of the roadway not only near Artyleryjska Street, but also on Andersa, Konopnickiej, Zagłoby and Żeromskiego Street.

Drivers squeeze through them as if through a narrow corridor. When parked cars stand on both sides, getting larger vehicles through is almost a miracle. Residents point out that in such a situation emergency services could have problems, for example larger fire engines.

The source of the trouble is fairly obvious: there are too few parking spaces, and more and more cars. The unit is expanding; a brigade is soon to be established here (there is currently a regiment), while the number of soldiers and employees is growing, and many of them commute from outside the city. This means one thing— even greater pressure on already inefficient infrastructure.

Lack of parking spaces and convenience

What is more, according to residents’ accounts, the problem is not limited solely to the lack of spaces. There are reports that some drivers consciously choose not to park in the unit’s designated car park, even when spaces are available there. The reason is prosaic—after work, leaving the large car park means waiting a long time in a traffic jam. As a result, some people prefer to leave their cars on nearby streets, shifting the problem into public space.

The military expanded the existing car park

The military is trying to solve the problem. An enlarged car park on Rzemieślnicza Street is already ready, but—as residents emphasize—the changes are too slow and insufficient. Instead of disappearing, the problem is spreading to more streets, covering an increasingly large area of the housing estate.

The issue also regularly returns in city debates. Councillors intervene, write letters and call for concrete action. Recently, even a member of parliament appeared and promised to address the problem. Among the ideas most often repeated as a possible solution is opening the existing (second) car park from the bypass side of the city (on the other side of the unit), which could relieve the streets on the city side.
