It concerns two Kamienna Streets in Bolesławiec. One of them is incorrectly marked by Google Maps in the area of Kościuszki Street. This is troublesome for business owners, service providers and residents, because couriers and food delivery drivers still confuse the addresses, while Kamienna Street, according to the Bolesławiec City Office’s street register, runs parallel to Bazaltowa Street (the exit toward Zgorzelec, in the area of Generała Nila Street and Zabobrze Street).
– In connection with questions arising about incorrect location indications in Google Maps, we would like to inform you that the office took action in this matter as early as 2022 – explains UM spokesperson Agnieszka Gergont. – On September 8, 2022, Dariusz Rutyna, head of the IT Department, reported the location error to Google. Unfortunately, the report remained unanswered, and Google does not provide tools allowing users to verify the stage at which such cases are being processed. Since then, despite the passage of years, the problem has not been resolved. To increase the chances of the report being effectively processed, a representative of the office also joined the Google Local Guides program, which is one of the forms of reporting changes recommended by Google. Unfortunately, Google’s systems operate automatically and do not inform reporters about the progress or status of their cases – the spokesperson explains.
The spokesperson reports that the report has been resubmitted, in the hope that another attempt will bring the desired result. She also emphasizes that keeping Google Maps up to date is not within the office’s remit. Every user—resident, business owner or institution—can report comments and corrections directly in Google Maps. Importantly, the more such reports there are, the greater the chance of a faster response from Google and the implementation of changes.
Will the residents of Bolesławiec succeed, and will the number of reports finally force Google to respond?
