Intensive work is underway in Bolesławiec on the construction of a new bridge over the Bóbr River. The investor is the Wrocław Branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, and the contractor is Himmel i Papesch Opole. The project is being carried out as part of the task “Expansion of the transport system, including the reconstruction of the existing bridge and construction of a new bridge over the Bóbr River along national road no. 94 in Bolesławiec”.

What has been done recently?

On December 2 and 3, 2025, one of the key construction stages took place—the concreting of the load-bearing structure of the new bridge over the Bóbr. The structure being built is a three-span prestressed-concrete bridge. 260 tonnes of reinforcement and 1,250 cubic meters of heated C50 concrete were incorporated. Concreting the structure took 24 hours.

The next stage is prestressing the load-bearing structure. For this purpose, 66 kilometers of steel strands were used; once tensioned, they will lift the structure from the formwork and allow it to be dismantled.

What else will be done?

– In the next stage, the contractor plans to carry out finishing works—constructing sidewalks and access roads, as well as diverting traffic from the old bridge in the middle of next year. Due to the winter period, the works depend on the severity of the coming winter. This project offers an opportunity to modernize a very important section of the city’s and wider-area infrastructure—the national road running through the city. It is an investment both in better transport connections and in safety. It may also significantly increase Bolesławiec’s attractiveness as a place to live, work or run a business. Residents will gain better access roads, easier access to different parts of the city and more convenient pedestrian and cycling routes, which may improve everyday quality of life. Thanks to the dual-carriageway DK94, two-lane bridges and new intersections, traffic through the city will flow more smoothly, with fewer traffic jams – says Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.

It is worth recalling that the existing bridge, due to its poor technical condition and non-standard parameters, will be demolished, and a new one will be built in its place. A second bridge is currently being built on the northern side, resulting in two parallel, twin bridges.

A section of the dual-carriageway DK94 will also be built. Each of the new bridges will have a two-lane roadway, sidewalk and bicycle path. This solution will ensure good connections between the two riverbanks not only for motor vehicles, but also for pedestrians and cyclists.

Roundabouts with dimensions ensuring smooth traffic flow and complete freedom to choose the direction of travel will be built at both ends of the bridge crossings.

As part of the project, nearly 600 m of DK94 will be reconstructed, and its load-bearing capacity will be increased to 11.5 tonnes per axle. A roundabout will be built at the site of the current intersection of DK94 and Widok Street (voivodeship road no. 350), while the existing roundabout with Zgorzelecka Street will be reconstructed. Two further DK94 intersections will also be reconstructed: with Spacerowa Street (county road no. 2324D) and with a municipal road (no. 104068D).

Bus bays will be moved outside the main traffic-flow zone, and a sidewalk will be added on the northern side of Generała Augusta Emila Fieldorfa “Nila” Street. A stormwater drainage system, road lighting and road-safety features will be built.

The reconstruction of DK94, together with the construction of two bridges, will increase the capacity of the transport system and improve road safety. The project is financed from the state budget.
