Difficulties related to the reconstruction of road infrastructure near the new bridge over the Bóbr continue to cause strong reactions among drivers. Following the publication of a report from a Reader, who asked whether passage through this part of Bolesławiec could have been better organized during the ongoing works, we contacted the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways with questions.
Could solutions have been introduced during the renovation to improve passage? GDDKiA indicates that the current traffic organization is a temporary solution, while the changes themselves were also forced by some drivers’ behavior.
Drivers ask whether more could have been done
Recently, our website published a report from a Reader concerning the situation on the roads near the new bridge:
I am writing about this unfortunate entrance and exit from Bolesławiec... after all, the company has so many options to enable us to travel more easily during the renovation.
We therefore asked GDDKiA whether additional solutions could be introduced in the current situation to make passage easier for drivers.
GDDKiA: changes were also necessary because of drivers’ behavior
As Magdalena Szumiata, spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways, informed us:
On Tuesday, September 15, we introduced additional changes to traffic organization on DK94, including extending the barrier section and changes in the area of the petrol station.
She added that this was not solely about technically adapting traffic organization to the ongoing works:
The decision was made because drivers frequently violated regulations, creating a related safety risk.
She also emphasized:
The changes were implemented in consultation with the Police and representatives of the petrol station.
Why was traffic organized this way?
The spokesperson:
We are aware that every investment carried out in a built-up area causes difficulties for residents, because even minor changes to traffic organization are noticeable.
And she assures:
That is why we are trying to limit them in Bolesławiec; among other things, we have abandoned alternating traffic and manual traffic control.
Drivers still have to wait
For people using this section, the following information will be most important. Magdalena Szumiata:
The current traffic organization is temporary and will remain in force until around mid-October, that is, until work on the roundabout named after Jerzy Szmajdziński is completed.
The situation is expected to change once the work is completed:
Once the new roundabout is opened to vehicular traffic, a section of Zgorzelecka Street will be reopened, which will improve traffic flow.
Road authority: maintaining traffic during reconstruction could extend the investment
The GDDKiA spokesperson also addressed the issue of carrying out the works while maintaining road traffic:
I would add that reconstructing the roundabout while maintaining road traffic could significantly extend the time needed to complete the entire investment.
Road officials emphasize that this traffic organization is temporary and appeal:
We ask drivers for just a little more patience.
