On Wednesday, October 22, this year, police officers – junior aspirant Monika Lampart, Sergeant Michał Brodziński, senior constable Adrian Marczuk and senior constable Andrzej Krajewski – were returning from official training in Wrocław. Because the A4 motorway was blocked, the officers chose a route through Jelenia Góra.
In Karkonosze County, they noticed a vehicle travelling ahead of them. The way it was moving indicated that it might have a brake-system fault. Using their lights and siren, the officers stopped the driver to inform him of the possible malfunction.
Immediately after the vehicle stopped, smoke began rising from beneath its bonnet.
The officers immediately evacuated the driver and three children from the vehicle and then began extinguishing the car. At the same time, they called the emergency services and directed traffic until their arrival, ensuring the safety of other road users.
The officers sum up:
The attitude of the other drivers also deserves recognition. Seeing what was happening, they stopped and joined the firefighting effort, providing fire extinguishers from their cars. Thanks to their joint efforts, no one was injured and the fire was quickly brought under control.
And they add: – The officers’ actions show that the slogan “We help and protect” is not merely a motto, but a daily readiness to provide assistance – even outside working hours.
