Students and teachers at the Public Primary School named after Władysław Stanisław Reymont in Warta Bolesławiecka celebrated the first day of spring in grand style. Friday was filled with numerous attractions prepared for the entire school community by school counsellor Marlenę Przybylską.
Students from grades I–III took part in art and educational workshops prepared especially for them under the slogan “We stand in solidarity and offer support.” The workshops referred, among other things, to an important holiday established in 2005 and also observed on 21 March: World Down Syndrome Day, commonly known as Colourful Sock Day.
The children created artwork and solved riddles and puzzles. In addition, firefighters and police officers visited the school, reminding everyone of safety rules and presenting equipment that proved to be an exceptional attraction for the children.
The first day of spring was also an opportunity to improve physical fitness, because we all know that a healthy mind resides in a healthy body! That day, all students in grades IV–VIII at the Public Primary School in Warta Bolesławiecka took part in outdoor games and activities.
Undoubtedly, Friday’s greatest attraction was the procession, in which the entire school community took part—from the preschoolers to the oldest classes. All the children prepared beautiful banners and colourful spring outfits, then set off with their teachers, singing as they went, for a long walk through Warta Bolesławiecka to welcome spring and announce to the entire local community that one of the most beautiful seasons of the year had arrived. Daffodils, tulips and sweets were handed out to passers-by. There was an abundance of joy!
The school principal, Bożena Bondrow, warmly thanked the teaching staff and all the children for managing to combine these two beautiful and joyful celebrations. The shared fun became a lesson and an encouragement to express tolerance, understanding and acceptance toward people living with Down syndrome, as well as an opportunity to integrate, awaken artistic passions and improve physical fitness.
And she concludes: – Once again, it turned out that pleasure and usefulness should be combined, because wonderful fun can also be educational!
