The incident occurred on 9 February 2025 at one of the recreational facilities in Jelenia Góra. – According to police findings, the 36-year-old was preparing to use the swimming pools when he noticed a women’s handbag left in the changing room – explains junior inspector Edyta Bagrowska, press officer of the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters. Taking advantage of the owner’s absence, the man searched the handbag and stole a mobile phone and a wallet containing documents and cash. The spokesperson: – Then, wanting to hide the loot, he ran out of the building wearing only swim briefs and hid the stolen items under his car parked in the parking lot.
After some time, he returned to the car, searched the wallet, kept the cash and phone, and handed the documents in at reception, claiming that he had found them. Junior inspector E. Bagrowska: – The victim estimated her losses at nearly PLN 3,500.
After receiving the report of the theft, police officers analyzed the surveillance footage and, based on the information collected, quickly identified a suspect. It turned out to be a 36-year-old resident of Trzebnica County. The spokesperson:
Officers recovered the stolen phone, which, as it turned out, the man had given to his wife as a Valentine’s Day gift.
The man was charged and faces up to five years in prison. Police urge caution and remind people to always watch their personal belongings, especially in public places.
