The incident occurred on August 19 in Nowa Wieś Legnicka. – At around 2:20 a.m., an employee of the station approached police officers refueling a service vehicle and informed them that the man sitting behind the wheel of a green van was intoxicated and had just tried to drive away from the station, but stopped the car when he saw the officers – reports Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica.
The officers immediately headed toward the suspect. When he noticed them, he ran out of the vehicle and began to flee.
It did not help much. He was apprehended.
The spokesperson: – While fleeing, the 34-year-old was holding an open can of beer, and a strong smell of alcohol could be detected from him. During the identity check, the man began behaving aggressively and vulgarly; he was highly agitated. His dilated, bloodshot pupils indicated that he might also be under the influence of drugs. A breathalyzer test showed more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his exhaled air.
It soon emerged that the 34-year-old was subject to a lifetime ban on driving. Moreover, police determined that the detainee was driving a vehicle worth approximately PLN 180,000 that he had... stolen from the parking lot at the gas station.
Blood was collected from the man for further tests, after which he was placed in a police cell. He faces up to five years in prison.
