The Facebook profile Nowogrodziec News published a resident’s post:
This is the situation at the PSZOK today. I took two winter tires there to be disposed of. The person working there said they would not accept them because there had been no space for two weeks. Despite that, I left them. The PSZOK employee threw them back into my car, onto the seats, shouting: call Lubań or go to the Mayor. I took the tires to the Municipal Office and left them by the door of the Municipal Department. I heard from the head of that department that they were having a problem with a company from Lubań that was not collecting the waste—but that is not a problem for the residents of the municipality, it is a problem for the Office, which cannot cope. The department head said: go to the Mayor—“passing the buck.” Half an hour later, the Municipal Police arrived and brought the old tires back to my home, along with a warning for littering the Municipal Office.
The resident added:
(They did not leave the tires with me after all—they took them to the PSZOK. But I wonder whether they were chased away from there too, just as I was. After everything, I made myself a coffee, sat down and thought that those tires were not even in the worst condition; I could have waited to replace them until the next elections in the Town of Nowogrodziec. The most important thing is that I understood what this POLISH DEAL is that everyone is talking about so loudly now. Where are people supposed to take their waste—drive it to the forest????????
Andrzej Drąg, deputy mayor of the Municipality of Nowogrodziec, told istotne.pl:
As a result of selecting a bid through an open tender conducted in the first half of 2019, an agreement was concluded for the collection of municipal waste from the Municipality and Town of Nowogrodziec. The entity providing the collection and transport of municipal waste to the Regional Municipal Waste Processing Facility, as well as operating the Selective Municipal Waste Collection Point, is Zakład Gospodarki i Usług Komunalnych Sp. z o.o., based in Lubań at 8 Bankowa Street. Under the terms of the agreement, the Contractor is responsible for supervising, delivering and collecting containers. The Contractor is responsible for monitoring how full the containers are and sending them for processing immediately after they are filled.
In 2019, the total amount of waste—tires—was 33 tonnes, while in the previous year it had already reached 76 tonnes. This year, from January to April, the amount of collected tires exceeded 19 tonnes. In May, the tire container was collected four times, on May 2, 11, 16 and 19.
And he adds:
Such a significant increase in the amount of used tires delivered to the selective municipal waste collection point is the result of additional fees introduced for customers using tire-changing services. In previous years, used tires could be left at a workshop free of charge; now, customers have to pay to hand over old tires, and the price most often ranges from PLN 5 to PLN 10 per tire.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the PSZOK does not accept waste whose quantity or type indicates that it comes from business activity.
