A Reader via WhatsApp informed us that an illegal dump had appeared between Żeliszów and Stare Jaroszowice (Bolesławiec municipality). They added:
A massacre! I’d tear the bastard’s arms off right at the f**king a**.
We asked the municipal authorities for comment. Jarosław Babiasz, head of the Agriculture, Property and Municipal Management Department at the Bolesławiec Municipal Office:
Unfortunately, I am not yet able to determine whose plot these waste materials are located on. The boundary in this area includes land belonging to the municipality, private owners and the state forests.
As a municipality, we systematically clean up these kinds of “flowers”—a symbol of the perpetrator’s stupidity—provided they are located on municipal land. In other cases, in accordance with the law, we are forced to call on the landowner to clean it up, and the owner then pursues claims against the perpetrator.
J. Babiasz adds:
This problem can only be described by paraphrasing the words of Captain Wagner from the film C.K. Dezerterzy: “There are no words in the vocabulary of civilized people that could describe such conduct with sufficient insult.” Of course, here I should quote once again the words of Mrs Margaret Thatcher from the article about vandals, but I will shorten it to the conclusion—the whole community pays for such cunning. Last year alone, we spent PLN 11,000 from the municipal budget on this, while this year we have already spent PLN 2,000.
Of course, I am aware that once again my comment will cause a stir among people who relativize such behaviour. Nevertheless, I continue to appeal for the same things: care for our money, vigilance regarding unusual situations (for example, a van with or without a trailer in an open field or under a forest along a dirt road, far from buildings—farmers generally do not drive into fields in low-bed vehicles) and, above all, care for our small homeland.
