– The municipality keeps sending SMS messages about festivals, but when something like this happens, it sends nothing – says “ii” Reader, a resident of Bolesławiec. Interestingly, when a 31-year-old man was scalded by Żywioł Żywiec Zdrój water, both the City Municipality and Bolesławiec Municipality informed residents via SMS that the water might be contaminated.
We contacted Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for Bolesławiec City Hall. She told us that the City did not send SMS messages about the tank containing acid or Saturday’s evacuation because the entire operation took place in Kruszyn, in the territory of Bolesławiec Municipality. Why, then, did this local authority not inform residents about the emergency services’ actions? – In the case in question, there was a local threat, limited to the area of Kruszyn, rather than a threat affecting the entire municipality – explains Małgorzata Wdowińska, inspector for administration, crisis management and occupational health and safety at Bolesławiec Municipality Office. – A representative of KP PSP in Bolesławiec, where the operation’s crisis headquarters was located, provided ongoing information about the entire incident. The headquarters decided that announcements would be conveyed only through its representatives.
Let us recall that in Saturday’s article, Fire service: road closed and residents evacuated in Kruszyn, we wrote that an unidentified chemical substance had begun leaking from a van in Kruszyn. The van was parked near Gospoda Kruszyna. The inn’s guests and residents of nearby houses were evacuated. A detailed description of the operation, prepared by the spokesperson for the Bolesławiec District Headquarters of the State Fire Service, junior brigadier Piotr Pilarczyk, can be found on the Bolesławiec fire service website.
It is worth adding that both local authorities informed residents that Żywioł Żywiec Zdrój water might be contaminated at the request of the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters. What do you think? We invite you to discuss the matter and take part in our poll.
