Officers from Bolesławiec detained a three-person group suspected of defrauding elderly people. The gang—two men and a woman aged between 26 and 29—had been carrying out their scheme throughout Lower Silesia for about a year.
The scenario was similar every time. The trio, travelling in a van, sought out elderly people and then told them that someone from their family had ordered vegetables (potatoes or onions) at a specified price, usually as much as twice the market price.
An 84-year-old woman from Bolesławiec was defrauded in this way. While the woman was paying one of the suspects for the potatoes, the other stole PLN 400 from her apartment.
Officers ask anyone who has been victimised in a similar way to report to the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec (Zygmunta Augusta Street, room 310) or to make contact by telephone at 75 649 62 31 or 75 649 62 34.
The suspects confessed to the crime. They now face up to eight years in prison.
