The arson attacks at the district Orlik (Janusz Korczak II General Secondary School in Bolesławiec) took place at the beginning of July. The perpetrators (aged 12 and 16) first played football and then began setting fire to the artificial turf. The damage was estimated at PLN 650. The vandals were detained. Both will face a family court for their actions.
In total, the vandals burned five holes in the surface. “Now employees of a company from Łódź have to come to us and patch each of these holes with a one-square-metre piece,” explains the facilities manager of II LO. “The material alone costs PLN 100.”
This is not the first crime of this kind to occur on the school premises. On July 11 this year, a vandal damaged the surface of the basketball court. Last year, doors were set on fire, handles were damaged, a peephole was smashed, a young tree was broken and daubings were painted on the building.
In October 2011, meanwhile, we reported that two teenagers who had damaged the school’s facade were apprehended by the police. The perpetrators told police officers that they had painted “graffiti” because... they were bored.
