The incident occurred on January 30 on the A4 motorway, in Bolesławiec County. Police officers received information that a car was standing on the motorway’s emergency lane and that its driver was probably stealing drain grates.
The suspect turned out to be a 30-year-old man travelling in a Fiat 126p with his wife and two children, aged 3 years and 8 months. The officers noticed that a drain grate was missing near the man’s car. After searching the vehicle, the officers found five grates of this type.
The 30-year-old was taken into police custody. He faces up to five years in prison.
