The incident occurred on October 16. At around 10:20 p.m., the duty officer at the Bolesławiec police headquarters received information that a 78-year-old resident of Legnica had become lost in the forest while picking mushrooms. Police officers from Kruszyn immediately began searching. First, they found a basket, and then the missing man. He was soaked and chilled through. Fortunately, however, nothing serious had happened to him.

According to the officers’ findings, two men got lost in the forests of Bolesławiec County that day: the 78-year-old man and his friend. The men became separated, and each searched for the right way out on his own. One of the mushroom pickers managed to leave the forest. The man returned home by train.
