– I decided to open the Orlik – says Mirosław Sakowski, headmaster of II Liceum Ogólnokształcące im. Janusza Korczaka in Bolesławiec. Until now, the sports-field complex on Dolne Młyny Street was closed at night; since 10 May, it has been open around the clock.
The reason? Repeated acts of vandalism on the Orlik premises. At the end of March this year, we reported that vandals had devastated the building at the facility. Burnt doors, damaged handles, a broken peephole, a broken tree and graffiti – this act of vandalism took place on Sunday, 25 March, at around 3:00 p.m.
And it was not the first such crime to take place on the school’s premises. In October last year, we reported that two teenagers who had damaged the school’s façade had been caught by the police. They told the officers that they had painted “graffiti” because... they were bored.
The Orlik fence is also repeatedly vandalized. Last year, II LO spent more than PLN 3,500 just on repairing the fence. – At the beginning of May, we repaired the entire fence again – Sakowski says. – Shortly afterward, it was damaged again.
From 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., the facility is reserved for the school’s students; then, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., activities with an instructor take place there. – The vandalism most often occurred after 8:30 p.m., when the Orlik was closed – says the headmaster of II LO. – Since it has been open, there has been no additional damage.
Mirosław Sakowski appeals to everyone using the facility to respect this sports complex and to stop climbing over the fence. They can simply use the gate now.
