The incident occurred during a taxi ride in Wrocław. The passenger allegedly began insulting the 66-year-old driver after hearing his Eastern accent. According to the victim’s account, the verbal abuse concerned his nationality.

The aggression allegedly did not end there. The 23-year-old physically attacked the driver, hitting him on the head with a glass bottle.

The case was taken up by criminal investigators from the Wrocław-Stare Miasto Police Station. The officers quickly established the suspect’s identity and then arrested him.

The evidence collected made it possible to charge the 23-year-old with attacking a person because of their national origin. Such an offense carries a sentence of up to five years in prison.

By decision of the prosecutor, the suspect was placed under police supervision.

The police emphasize that national, cultural or linguistic differences cannot be a reason for aggression or humiliating another person. Officers announce a firm response to cases of violence motivated by nationality:

Every instance of such behavior is treated very seriously and is subject to criminal liability.
