On Thursday, police appeared at the site. As it turned out, the tree felling had begun legally – the officers were shown the decision of the Starosta of Bolesławiec on the matter.

We have not yet received a response from the city authorities.

On 20 August, we reported that tree felling was being carried out in the park near the summer swimming pools on Spacerowa Street in Bolesławiec. We were informed about the matter by a reader, who has been observing the work being carried out there for several days.

– Fauna and flora do not stop them from felling trees in the park near the swimming pools during the protected period, which lasts until October – the Bolesławiec resident wrote to the editorial office.

The resident claims that the trees were previously supposed to be monitored, and that any removal of diseased specimens was to take place after the end of the protected period: – Meanwhile, this week they began cutting down trees that have and had plenty of bird nests in them.

As she adds, she knows about the situation from her own observations because she lives nearby and regularly walks through the park:

I know this because I live here and walk through this park with my dogs several times a day.

The reader also sent recordings showing the work being carried out and the trees being removed from the site. In her opinion, healthy trees are also being removed.

The matter is particularly significant because the trees in the area of the summer swimming pools had already attracted residents’ attention. In June, we reported on orange markings that appeared on trees at the Water and Sports Centre on Spacerowa Street.

At the time, the Bolesławiec City Office explained that the markings were related to an inventory of the tree stand being carried out in connection with the preparation of documentation for the “Development of the OWS site at 24 Spacerowa Street in Bolesławiec – stage II” investment. The city authorities explained that the detailed inventory was intended to make it possible to design the facility in a way that would limit interference with the existing tree stand as much as possible.

The city also reported that the inventory included an assessment of the condition of the trees and maintenance work, such as pruning dry branches. At the same time, it was indicated that removing trees requires an appropriate decision from the Starosta of Bolesławiec, and that such decisions entail an obligation to carry out replacement plantings.

We asked the Bolesławiec city authorities about the matter again. We will publish the response as soon as we receive it.
