An Emergency Medical Team intervention that was supposed to end with assistance being provided to an unconscious man turned into an attack on a paramedic. The incident occurred last weekend in one of the parks in Zgorzelec.
As reported by the Zgorzelec police, paramedics were called about an unconscious 22-year-old Ukrainian citizen. When one of the medics began providing him with the necessary assistance, the man suddenly became aggressive and violated the bodily integrity of the paramedic.
A police patrol was immediately sent to the scene. Officers arrested the 22-year-old, and the evidence collected made it possible to charge him with violating the bodily integrity of a public official in connection with the performance of his official duties.
The case was heard under an expedited procedure. The court imposed a fine on the man.
After the procedural activities were completed, the 22-year-old was handed over to Border Guard officers. They will decide whether an obligation to return will be imposed on the man.
Police:
Every day, paramedics save people’s health and lives, often working in difficult and dangerous conditions. While carrying out their duties, they have the right to expect respect and safety. Every case of aggression against people providing assistance will meet with a firm and decisive response from the Police.
And it adds:
We remind you that violating the bodily integrity of a paramedic while they are performing their official duties is a criminal offense. Police officers consistently take action against perpetrators of such acts, while a swift response and cooperation between the services make it possible to effectively hold them accountable.
