Police officers from the Traffic Division of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters stopped a driver who had significantly exceeded the permitted speed on national road No. 94. The man was travelling at over 140 km/h in a place where the speed limit is 90 km/h.
The driver was a 25-year-old resident of Lwówek County. The measurement showed that he had exceeded the permitted speed by more than 50 km/h outside a built-up area.
The consequences were severe. The driver was fined PLN 1,500, received 13 penalty points and additionally lost his driving licence for three months.
Police remind drivers that, under the applicable regulations, they may lose their driving licence for three months not only for exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area. The same sanction also applies when the limit is exceeded by more than 50 km/h outside a built-up area.
Officers appeal to drivers to exercise caution and observe the applicable speed limits. Even good road conditions do not exempt drivers from the obligation to drive in accordance with the regulations, and excessive speed remains one of the main causes of the most serious road accidents.
