Thanks to the effective work of officers from the Criminal Division of the District Police Headquarters in Oława, the perpetrator was quickly identified. He turned out to be a 17-year-old resident of Oława County who, it seems, did not fully realise the seriousness and consequences of his actions. The court will decide his further fate.
Officers of the District Police Headquarters in Oława conducted operations related to a series of false reports made to the 112 emergency number. On 12–13 June, a person who had not yet been identified repeatedly informed operators about alleged fires, disturbances and other incidents requiring the urgent intervention of emergency services.
It was established that the perpetrator made calls from a phone without a SIM card, providing different fictitious personal details each time. Analysis of the reports showed that he made a total of 44 calls to the 112 emergency number, reporting incidents that had never occurred.
Each of these reports was treated with the utmost seriousness. Information about fires in residential buildings, forests, a chapel or vehicles required immediate verification and the deployment of appropriate personnel and resources. This resulted in the unnecessary involvement of police officers, firefighters and paramedics, who might at that time have been needed by people facing a genuine threat.
Through the analysis of secured materials, call records and telecommunications findings, criminal division officers identified and located the perpetrator. On 13 June, officers reached the 17-year-old resident of Oława County. The man was questioned, and the collected evidence will be submitted to the court, which will decide the consequences of his act.
It is recalled that the 112 emergency number is intended exclusively for reporting genuine threats to life, health or property. False reports are not an innocent joke—each one initiates procedures and engages people, equipment and time, and may also delay assistance to those who truly need it.
People who make false alarms or unjustifiably engage emergency services must expect legal consequences. Pursuant to Article 66 § 1 of the Code of Petty Offences, anyone who intentionally causes an unnecessary action by a public-utility institution or an authority responsible for the protection of security, public order or health is subject to arrest, restriction of liberty or a fine.
Do not block the emergency number—while you are joking, someone else may be fighting for their life.
