The incident occurred on 18 May 2026 on Łużycka Street in Zgorzelec. Investigators determined that, during the transport of valuables, a sack containing a cash deposit fell from the unsecured cargo area of the escort vehicle. It contained funds with a total value of approximately 1 million zlotys.

The escorts initially did not notice that the deposit was missing and continued driving. At that time, according to the prosecutor’s office, a man driving along the street allegedly stopped his car, took the sack of money into his vehicle, and then drove away from the scene.

The case was taken up by officers of the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec and the Zgorzelec District Prosecutor’s Office. Operational and investigative activities led to the suspect’s identification and arrest.

The 51-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County was brought to the prosecutor’s office, where he was charged with misappropriating found property in the form of funds worth approximately one million zlotys. Investigators classified the act under Article 284 §3 of the Criminal Code.

The suspect did not admit to committing the alleged offense and provided an explanation. The prosecutor imposed a non-custodial preventive measure in the form of a property bail of PLN 50,000.

As reported by the prosecutor’s office press spokesperson, Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska, the man had not previously been convicted. The investigation is still ongoing, and the misappropriated money has not yet been recovered.
