A dangerous incident occurred in Bolesławiec County. A truck driver who was driving under the influence of alcohol was arrested. Police determined that the 55-year-old Ukrainian national had nearly 1.5 permille of alcohol in his system.

Officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec intervened following a report concerning a truck driver who had arrived to return a company vehicle. The man’s behavior aroused the suspicions of one of the company’s employees.

A breathalyzer test confirmed the informant’s suspicions. The driver was intoxicated. Police arrested the 55-year-old and charged him with operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.

The case reached the court very quickly. The man was brought under expedited proceedings before the District Court in Bolesławiec, where he was sentenced.

The court imposed a three-year ban on driving all motor vehicles.

However, this is not the end of the consequences. The driver must also pay PLN 5,000 to the Fund for Assistance to Victims and Post-Penitentiary Assistance.

After the proceedings were completed, the Ukrainian national was handed over to officers of the Border Guard in Zgorzelec. The officers are taking further action related to issuing a decision obliging the foreign national to leave Polish territory.

Police once again remind the public that even a small amount of alcohol significantly reduces a driver’s concentration and reaction time. In the case of heavy vehicles, the consequences of driving under the influence can be particularly tragic.
