A dangerous situation occurred on Monday, May 18, in Bolesławiec County. The Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters received a report concerning a 3-year-old boy who had wandered off in an unknown direction during a walk with his grandmother. Due to the child’s age and the real threat to his safety, the services immediately began extensive search operations.
Bolesławiec police officers were sent to the scene and immediately began checking the nearest area and speaking with residents and neighbours. The officers tried to determine in which direction the child might have gone. Community police officers who knew the area’s topography very well quickly joined the operation.
The police checked nearby roads, playgrounds, green areas and surrounding forest complexes. The operation was conducted dynamically and in full coordination, because every minute mattered. The officers stressed that in cases involving a missing young child, a rapid response is of key importance.
A breakthrough came when the community police officers, together with one of the residents, reached the area of a nearby forest complex. It was there that the boy’s silhouette was spotted. According to the officers, the 3-year-old was clearly frightened and confused and also did not know how to get back home.
A moment later, the child was safely placed in his parents’ care. The police stressed that the residents played a huge role by actively joining the search and supporting the services from the very beginning of the operation.
The officers also remind parents of the need to talk with children about safety and the rules of behaviour if they become lost. Young children should know not to wander into unknown places and to ask trusted adults or uniformed service officers for help.
