Bolesławiec police received a report of another case of fraud. A resident of the city was scammed using the “police officer” method. The senior, convinced that he was protecting his savings, handed PLN 45,000 to a stranger.
A person claiming to be a police officer called the landline and informed the man that the money in his account was at risk. The senior was supposed to withdraw the cash and hand it to the designated courier. After collecting the money from the bank, the man returned home and handed it to a stranger who came to his apartment.
Police officers from Bolesławiec remind the public that officers never ask anyone to withdraw money or hand cash over to strangers. In the event of suspicious calls, end the conversation immediately and contact the police or call 112.
Officers also appeal to the families of seniors to talk to them about scammers’ methods and warn older people about this type of crime.
