Emotions surrounding the merger of the hospitals in Bolesławiec and Zgorzelec have still not subsided. At an extraordinary session held on May 13, the Zgorzelec County Council adopted a resolution selecting representatives to the Social Council of the new institution. These are the people who will represent residents’ interests and perform a supervisory role over the medical giant. The following people were appointed:

  • Mirosław Fiedorowicz
  • Krystyna Radzięta
  • Ireneusz Owsik
  • Marian Matyjasik
  • Dawid Szczepanik
  • Rafał Gronicz.

A New Balance of Power

The Social Council will not consist exclusively of representatives of Zgorzelec. Under the adopted allocation, it includes seven people selected by the Bolesławiec County Council.

In Bolesławiec County, the governing coalition’s votes brought the following people onto the new hospital’s Social Council:

  • Krzysztof Basiak (from Tomasz Gabrysiak’s Forum Powiatu list)
  • Tomasz Gabrysiak
  • Patryk Hałka (Law and Justice)
  • Sebastian Fijałkowski (Law and Justice)
  • Piotr Roman
  • Alina Zarembecka (Impuls Lokalny in coalition with Piotr Roman)
  • Andrzej Żuk (Piotr Roman’s list).

The hospital in Bolesławiec uses the services of a private company but refuses to disclose how much money is involved. Meanwhile, the same company includes doctors, the hospital’s management, its lawyers, and previously also the director’s wife. The matter is beginning to look like a closed system of connections. The amounts earned by the company are enormous.

Following our reports, Tomasz Gabrysiak, the county head, decided to launch an inspection of the Bolesławiec facility.

A Social Council is an advisory and consultative body operating at a healthcare entity, such as an independent public healthcare institution (SPZOZ) or a healthcare organization. It does not manage the facility directly, but supports its operation by issuing opinions and reviewing selected matters related to the unit’s activities.
