A dangerous incident occurred last Sunday on a mountain trail in the Świeradów-Zdrój area. A dog named Daisy, being led on a leash, was bitten on the paw by a well-camouflaged adder that was basking on the path. In such cases, every minute counts—the venom can quickly endanger the animal’s life.

The report was received by the District Police Headquarters in Lwówek Śląski, where kom. Iwona Miras was on duty. Although this type of intervention is not among the police’s standard duties, the officer reacted immediately. Seeing the seriousness of the situation, she notified Dziki Patrol and began coordinating the operation.

The problem was the location—the dog’s owner was far from the car, on the trail toward Rozdroże pod Kopą. In addition, because of the long weekend, some services had limited availability, which could have significantly delayed assistance.

Fortunately, hunters from the “Głuszec” Hunting Association in Lwówek Śląski also joined the operation. Thanks to their excellent knowledge of the area, they quickly reached the injured dog and its owner. They then helped transport Daisy to the car, significantly shortening the time needed to reach the veterinary clinic.

Even before the rescuers arrived, the dog was already on its way to receive specialist veterinary care. At the clinic, Daisy immediately received the necessary treatment.

Lwówek police:

⚠️ Reminder:
The common European adder is the only venomous snake in Poland. On warm days, it often basks on trails and forest roads.

👉 Remember:
• keep your dog on a leash,
• avoid dense grass and rocky areas,
• watch the path,
• in the event of a bite, stay calm and go to a veterinarian as soon as possible,
• limit the dog’s movement to slow the spread of the venom.

And adds:

🙏 Thank you to everyone involved in this operation—for their cooperation, swift decisions and practical assistance.

And concludes:

This is another example that empathy, commitment and cooperation can save a life—even where there is no obligation to act.
