The officers stopped a passenger-car driver who had exceeded the speed limit. During standard procedures, the officers also decided to check the sobriety of the 31-year-old man. As it quickly turned out, this was an extremely wise decision.
A breathalyzer test showed that the driver had more than one promille of alcohol in his system. As a result, the police immediately confiscated his driving licence, preventing him from driving any further.
However, the consequences for the 31-year-old do not end there. The man will be held responsible not only for the offence of exceeding the speed limit, but also for the crime of driving a vehicle while intoxicated. Under the applicable regulations, he faces up to 3 years in prison, a substantial fine and a multi-year driving ban.
The police once again appeal for caution and responsibility on the road. Even a routine check can reveal serious violations of the law that carry far-reaching consequences.
