– Just one day after the new regulations came into force, an operator monitoring Legnica for the Municipal Police, while analysing a recording, noticed a Mercedes passenger-car driver performing dangerous manoeuvres in the city – reports senior officer Łukasz Porębski from the Press Section of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
He adds: – According to the monitoring footage, the driver accelerated the vehicle and then deliberately caused it to skid—the so-called drift. To make matters worse, the woman's manoeuvres created a danger for other road users. The Municipal Police officer immediately informed police officers of the incident.
On this basis, officers intervened and stopped the vehicle for a roadside inspection on Iwaszkiewicza Street. They determined that a 19-year-old was behind the wheel and that, just moments earlier, her behaviour on the road had indeed created a real danger for other road users.
In connection with the offence, police confiscated her driving licence for three months and issued her with a fine.
Police:
We remind you that on 30 March 2026, regulations came into force that clearly establish liability for particularly dangerous behaviour in road traffic, such as drifting and riding on one wheel.
Under the applicable regulations:
- deliberately causing a vehicle to skid (so-called drifting) carries a fine of at least PLN 1,500 and 15 penalty points,
- if the same offence is committed again within two years (recidivism), the penalty increases to at least PLN 3,000,
- riding on one wheel—in the case of a motorcycle—or driving a motor vehicle on only one axle is subject to identical sanctions: a hefty fine and 15 penalty points.
Officers: – Additionally, in the event of a gross violation of safety rules, a police officer will confiscate the driving licence for three months. If the driver's behaviour creates a real danger for other road users, the case may be referred to court. In such a situation, the driver must expect a fine of up to PLN 30,000 and the possibility of being banned from driving.
And they conclude:
We appeal to all road users to act responsibly and exercise caution. Any dangerous behaviour on the road can lead to tragic consequences.
