In connection with information appearing in the public sphere, we wish to clarify that the Mayor of the City of Lubań was not the direct employer of the person employed at the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre. At the same time, we inform you that the person concerned is no longer working at MOSiR.
We regret the situation that has occurred and understand that it is causing justified emotions among residents. We assure you that all decisions concerning the employment of staff are made with the utmost care and concern for the well-being of the local community.
The Mayor, acting within the scope of his powers and having reservations about the quality of the director’s work at the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre, terminated his employment on 31 January 2026.
Mayor of the City of Lubań
Grzegorz Wieczorek
The case was reported by eluban.pl. On 30 January this year, Bolesławiec police officers—acting on the orders of our court—escorted 59-year-old Tadeusz K. out of Lubań’s MOSiR in handcuffs. The man was wanted, as he had to serve a sentence of two years and eight months in prison for acts of a sexual nature involving a minor. The local newspaper reported:
The act committed by Tadeusz K. dates back to June 2021. For almost a year, until May 2022, the man abused a 14-year-old girl. The first verdict in the case was issued on 3 December 2024.
The final ruling was issued on 2 October 2025. Among other penalties, K. received a “seven-year ban on holding any or specified positions, practicing any or specified professions, or engaging in activities related to raising, educating, treating minors or caring for them”.
Eluban.pl:
Tadeusz K. remained employed at MOSiR in Lubań throughout; in fact, he had been employed there even before committing the crime. It should also be added that he had previously worked at educational institutions in Lubań. However, during the proceedings, only a precautionary measure prohibiting him from approaching or contacting the victim was imposed on the man. That prohibition was also included in the court judgment.
The website emphasizes:
During this time, as a technical employee, the man had unrestricted access to sports halls, sports fields and the swimming pool. He was there every day, servicing infrastructure used by hundreds of children and young people. He had access to intimate and sensitive areas, such as changing rooms and toilets.
The President of the District Court in Bolesławiec, District Court Judge Joanny Moroz-Korycka informed the Lubań outlet that the justice system had completed all information procedures.
(…) it was confirmed that information about the conviction had been sent directly to the employer: “The Mayor of the City of Lubań, as the supervisory body over the unit employing the convicted person, was notified of the contents of the final ruling.”
The newspaper notes: – Despite this official knowledge, the city authorities took no steps to remove the offender from working at sports facilities. Tadeusz K. worked near children who were completely unaware of the situation until he was arrested by the police and taken to prison (30 January 2026). This means that the only barrier protecting the children from the convicted man may have been action by the employer—which never took place.
On 20 March, the Lubań outlet asked the mayor about the situation. He is expected to address the matter on Monday.
