On the morning of March 5, 2026, an incident occurred. – Police officers from the Police Station in Chojnów were conducting roadside sobriety checks in Czernikowice – reports Senior Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters. – At one point, the officers signaled the driver of a Mercedes passenger car to stop.
The man initially slowed down, but moments later sharply accelerated and began to flee. The police immediately pursued him, using the emergency vehicle's lights and siren.
During the escape, the driver traveled at very high speed, repeatedly overtook other vehicles dangerously, entered the lane intended for oncoming traffic, and ignored road signs. His behavior posed a real threat to other road users.
The chase ended near Szczytnica, beneath the A4 motorway overpass. During an attempt to stop him, the Mercedes driver collided with a police car, after which his vehicle left the roadway and stopped at a curb, making further escape impossible.
After being stopped, the man was aggressive, failed to follow police orders, and actively resisted. The officers successfully subdued him.
A breathalyzer test showed that the driver was sober. However, a drug test indicated the presence of several intoxicating substances, including THC, amphetamine, cocaine, and methamphetamine. The man was taken to a hospital in Legnica, where blood was drawn for further testing.
The spokesperson: – The detainee is a 40-year-old resident of the region who was already known to officers because of previous conflicts with the law. The man was placed in police custody, where further proceedings in the case are being conducted.
The offenses carry a sentence of up to five years in prison and a multi-year driving ban.
