The incident occurred on October 1, at approximately 8:00 a.m. Officers from the Traffic Division of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica attempted to stop the driver of a Volkswagen for a check.
However, the man had no intention of complying with the officers’ orders. Despite the light and sound signals, he did not stop the car. On the contrary, he began to flee.
Chase across roads, fields and through a forest
The driver headed toward Krzywa and Witków. District police officers from the Chojnów Police Station, who were serving in the Okmiany area at the time, also joined the chase.
The 24-year-old attempted to lose the officers pursuing him. At one point, he turned off the road onto woodland and farmland. He then stopped the car, got out and continued fleeing on foot.
After running several hundred metres, the man decided to take an even more desperate step. He jumped into a river, apparently hoping that this would help him lose the officers.
Police officers from the Chojnów Police Station went after him and detained the 24-year-old moments later.
Four driving bans
The reason for his escape soon became clear. After checking the man’s details in police systems, the officers established that he was subject to four active court bans on driving any motor vehicles.
But that was not all.
The 24-year-old admitted to the officers that he had previously taken drugs. A drug test conducted at the scene returned a positive result for substances from the amphetamine and methamphetamine groups.
The man was taken to hospital, where blood was drawn from him for further testing.
The car had improper license plates
During further activities, officers also established that the Volkswagen driven by the 24-year-old had never been registered in Poland. In addition, the license plates mounted on it were assigned to another Volkswagen vehicle.
The 24-year-old was detained and placed in a room for detained persons. He has already been charged in connection with the crimes committed.
For the acts he is alleged to have committed, he faces up to 5 years in prison.
The District Prosecutor in Złotoryja placed the Zgorzelec resident under police supervision.
