The incident occurred in the morning, during a patrol of national road no. 94. Bolesławiec traffic police officers noticed a passenger-car driver performing an overtaking manoeuvre in a prohibited location. The police:
Ignoring the rules and safety principles, the man moved into the opposite lane, directly into the path of the approaching police car.
The officers reacted immediately. The driver was stopped for a roadside check. A 30-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County was behind the wheel; he did not have a licence to drive vehicles. The officers: – In addition, there was a female passenger in the vehicle, which further increased the danger resulting from the irresponsible manoeuvre.
During the check, the police conducted a drug test. The result indicated the presence of intoxicating substances in the driver’s body. Blood was taken from the man for further laboratory tests, which will ultimately confirm whether he was driving under the influence of drugs. In addition, the inspection revealed that the vehicle lacked mandatory equipment—a fire extinguisher.
The 30-year-old will answer for a series of offences. Bolesławiec police:
If laboratory tests confirm the presence of intoxicating substances in his body, he will be charged with driving under their influence, an offence punishable by up to 3 years in prison.
The police remind drivers that bravado, disregard for the rules and getting behind the wheel under the influence of prohibited substances are extremely irresponsible behaviours that can lead to tragedy on the road.
