This is what the incident looked like as recorded by our camera and by a woman who was walking through the Market Square:
Here is the police explanation:
Yesterday, officers from Bolesławiec intervened in response to reports concerning an aggressive and belligerent 35-year-old man who had been harassing his former partner at her workplace and threatening her. The man did not comply with orders and also threatened officers with death. Because his behavior posed a threat to himself and others, and because he failed to follow orders, it became necessary to use basic direct coercive measures and arrest him. It turned out that he had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system.
Officers from the Bolesławiec Traffic Department intervened with regard to an intoxicated and aggressive 35-year-old city resident who had been harassing his former partner at her workplace. The action was taken following earlier reports indicating that the woman’s life and health might be at risk.
After arriving at the scene, the officers learned that the victim, whom the man had previously threatened, had gone to the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters to report a crime. It also turned out that the 35-year-old had damaged goods in a store.
A moment later, the man described in the report appeared at the retail premises and behaved vulgarly and aggressively in the presence of the uniformed officers. He also failed to comply with orders and threatened the officers with death. He then left the store and attempted to leave the scene of the intervention.
To prevent an escalation of his dangerous behavior in a public place, the officers decided to arrest the 35-year-old. Seeking to avoid arrest, the man struggled and pushed the officers, attempting to influence the course of the officers’ actions and prevent them from carrying them out. He then obstructed efforts to escort him to the police car. It therefore became necessary to use basic direct coercive measures, which were applied in accordance with the applicable regulations and consequently led to his arrest.
After being taken to the Bolesławiec District Police Headquarters, the 35-year-old’s sobriety was checked, and it turned out that he had more than 2 per mille of alcohol in his system. The man was also examined by a doctor and, as there were no contraindications, placed in the Room for Detained Persons.
Activities in this case are still ongoing, and the materials collected by the officers so far have confirmed that the intervention was conducted properly and in accordance with the regulations.
