The aim of the operation is to reduce the number of road accidents caused by excessive speed, which remains one of the main causes of the most serious road incidents.

As part of the operation, police officers are conducting intensified speed checks using handheld speed meters and patrol cars equipped with video recorders. Checks are being carried out on national, provincial and local roads.

Officers are also checking drivers’ sobriety, the technical condition of vehicles, mandatory equipment, including a fire extinguisher and warning triangle, as well as possession of the required documents.

Police remind drivers of the consequences of exceeding the speed limit. Exceeding the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area results in the driving licence being retained, a fine and penalty points. The amount of the fines and the number of penalty points depend on the extent to which the speed limit was exceeded.

Police appeal to drivers to exercise caution and responsibility and to adjust their speed to the conditions on the road. Excessive speed remains one of the most common causes of fatal accidents, which is why road safety depends on all of us.

Exceeding the speed limit entails high fines and penalty points:

  • 31–40 km/h – fine: 800 / 1600 zł, 9 penalty points
  • 41–50 km/h – fine: 1000 / 2000 zł, 11 penalty points
  • 51–60 km/h – fine: 1500 / 3000 zł, 13 penalty points
  • 61–70 km/h – fine: 2000 / 4000 zł, 14 penalty points
  • over 70 km/h – fine: 2500 / 5000 zł, 15 penalty points

Particularly serious consequences face drivers who exceed the speed limit by more than 50 km/h in a built-up area – in such cases, the driving licence is retained, and a fine and penalty points are imposed.
