At the request of the District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec, our court ordered three months of pre-trial detention for a 43-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County suspected of physically and psychologically abusing his mother and brother. – The investigation established that in May 2025, the perpetrator left prison, where he had been serving a prison sentence imposed on him for attempting to murder his brother – explains Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra.

She adds:

From August 2025 to 12 January 2026, the suspect, while intoxicated, repeatedly started domestic arguments during which he psychologically and physically abused his mother and brother, whom he had attempted to kill several years earlier. He insulted them using vulgar words commonly regarded as offensive, pulled at their clothing, pushed them and threatened to kill them, claiming that he would chop off their heads with a coal shovel or a knife.

That was not all. The spokeswoman said: – He also demonstrated the use of these objects against the victims by holding them against their necks. In view of his previous behaviour, the family members feared that he would carry out the threats.

On 12 January 2026, the perpetrator knocked his mother to the floor, stood on her throat and strangled her, causing bruising to the central part of her left cheek, bruising of her forearm and scratches on her hand. On the same day, he also hit his brother on the head with a poker, causing injuries in the form of a lump on the left side of his head and skin abrasions.

After being brought to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, the man was charged with abusing his mother and brother under recidivism conditions. The investigators said: – This offence carries a penalty of between three months and five years’ imprisonment; however, this perpetrator faces a sentence of between four months and seven years and six months’ imprisonment.

The suspect did not admit to committing the alleged offence. He gave explanations.
