On 9 December 2025, another cynical scam took place in one of the towns in Karkonosze County. Police:
A man posing as a doctor called a 73-year-old resident. During the phone call, he informed her that her daughter was in a life-threatening condition and urgently needed a special vaccine that was allegedly supposed to save her health. The fraudster insisted that funds had to be obtained urgently to purchase it and that time was of the essence.
He added:
The woman, misled and acting under severe stress and fear for her daughter’s life, believed the story she was told. Following the supposed doctor’s instructions, she handed over more than PLN 14,000 to a man who appeared at her apartment a few minutes later, posing as a courier collecting money for the “vaccine.” Only later did the victim realize that she had been scammed and notify the Police.

Scams of this type involve manipulating emotions—fear, concern and a sense of urgency. Therefore, remember:
🔹 A real doctor will NEVER ask for money over the phone!
🔹 No hospital or clinic sends “couriers” to collect cash!
🔹 If someone talks about an alleged threat to the health of a loved one, end the call and contact that person directly.
🔹 Do not let strangers into your home or hand money to unknown people 🚫💸
They add: – Please talk to your loved ones, especially seniors, so they know how to respond in such a situation. Every such conversation can prevent another scam.
