During a night patrol, local police officers attempted to stop the driver of an Opel for a traffic check. “However, despite the light and sound signals ordering him to stop the vehicle, he accelerated and began to flee,” reports Superintendent Agnieszka Goguł, press officer for the District Police Commander in Zgorzelec.
While driving through the city streets, the driver damaged a road sign, then lost control of the vehicle and drove into a ditch, after which he began fleeing on foot.
He was arrested after a brief chase.
Why did he flee? The police spokeswoman: “A check of the available databases revealed that the 52-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County did not have a driving licence. In addition, a drug test showed that he was under the influence of methamphetamine.
The outcome? The driver was taken to the Zgorzelec police station, while the Opel was towed to the police car park. The 52-year-old will now face the court for the offences he committed. He could face up to five years in prison.
Police:
We remind you that fleeing a traffic check, driving without a licence or under the influence of drugs are extremely irresponsible behaviors that pose a real threat to the lives and health of road users.
