The incident occurred on December 1. – At 8:20 p.m., officers from the Police Station in Chojnów were sent to Okmiany, where, according to the report, the driver of a Renault had caused a collision in a parking area by the A4 motorway and then left in the direction of Bolesławiec – reports Police Commissioner Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Legnica.

The officers immediately took action. The spokeswoman said: – At kilometre 60.8 of the A4 motorway, the sought vehicle was found stopped on the shoulder. A man was behind the wheel, and he stated that he had stopped because of a damaged tyre. During the conversation, the 53-year-old gave inconsistent information about the earlier collision, admitting at one point that he had caused the incident and then denying it.

The officers smelled a strong odour of alcohol on him. Two empty alcohol bottles were also found in the vehicle. – As there was a suspicion that the driver was under the influence of alcohol, he was subjected to a sobriety test. The test confirmed that the man was intoxicated and had more than 1.6 parts per thousand of alcohol in his exhaled air – the policewoman noted.

The man was arrested and taken to the Police Station in Chojnów, where further retrospective tests were conducted, also confirming his intoxication.

The driver's licence was confiscated, and he was placed in police custody.

Drunk drivers pose a serious threat to road safety. Officers consistently respond to every violation of the law and take action to remove from traffic drivers whose conduct puts other road users at risk.

We remind you that driving a vehicle while intoxicated carries a penalty of up to 3 years in prison, a heavy fine and a driving ban.
