Bolesławiec police officers received reports last weekend from 3 people who had been defrauded using the same method. The police command:

An alleged friend or family member asked for help paying for an order by sending a BLIK code.

Unfortunately, residents of Bolesławiec County lost several hundred zlotys each.

How do the scammers operate?

The method is as follows: criminals break into users’ Facebook profiles and then, impersonating the account owner, send messages to their friends on Messenger asking for an urgent loan or for a BLIK code.

The most common reasons given are an alleged need to “pay for an order,” “pay an additional few zlotys,” an “emergency,” or a “problem with the bank.” The scammers rely on the recipient’s trust and quick reaction, as the person believes they are helping a friend.

Police:

Remember!

Never give a BLIK code to anyone you contact exclusively online—even if they appear to be your friend.
