On November 28, during the 18th session of the Bolesławiec Municipal Council, a ceremony was held to present the Medals for Long Marital Life, awarded by the President of Poland to three couples – Grażyna and Józef Łuccy, Teresa and Antoni Śliwińscy and Urszula and Józef Grabowscy.
Teresa and Antoni Śliwińscy were neighbors – they lived in Bolesławiec and often spent time together playing in the yard. However, they lost touch when the man moved away with his parents. He did not forget his childhood friend, though, and several years later Teresa received a card from him saying that Antoni would like to meet and reminisce about the old days.
And so the couple began dating – she was 20 at the time, and he was two years older. A year and a half later, they became engaged. 💍
Urszula and Józef Grabowscy had also known each other since childhood. The couple met when Józef was chairman of the Rural Youth Circle in Łaziska, while Urszula handled the secretariat. Their feelings developed while working together, and Józef proposed on New Year’s Eve, as 1973 changed into 1974. 💍
On precisely that same New Year’s Eve, though at a party held in Iwiny, Józef and Grażyna Łuccy met. It was love at first sight – the couple danced together all night, and just six months later Józef proposed to his beloved. 💍
Bolesławiec municipality:
All our jubilarian couples had children – today they are parents, grandparents, and some even great-grandparents, serving as a support to their families. 👨👩👧👦 They all said their sacramental “I do” in 1974 and are now residents of Łaziska. The couples are connected by many years of friendship, mutual support and respect. 🤝
And it adds:
Let us recall that the Medals for Long Marital Life hold particular significance among the state distinctions awarded in our country, as their nature is deeply personal and familial. They symbolize the love, fidelity, responsibility and lasting marital bond uniting spouses, which can endure many years in both happy, prosperous and joyful times and in difficult moments requiring mutual support and respect. This medal can be received only once and is awarded to married couples who have remained together in one relationship for at least 50 years. 🏅
